GAASBEEK CASTLE

Took a 40 minute drive on Sunday to a village in the Flemish area of the country.   The town of Linnick.  Here is the property of Gaasbeek Castle.   Originally the property was built in 1242 but it was destroyed by the Brussels City Troops led by Lord Gaasbeek.  Then in 1565 a castle was built on the ruins.  In the 1880's it was redesigned to it's current architecture.  It looks like a typical castle from one side and the other it looks more like a grand estate like you would see in Newport.  In 1922 the last private owner of the property donated it to Belgium.  Sometime in the 1980s the Flemish Community became owners of the castle and it's 124 acres.

  1. This one looks fairy-tale-ish to me. Very pretty with the turrets, and the grounds are beautiful too. What IS Mark doing there with his head bent to the side? LOL
