TURVEREN PARK

LAST SUNDAY RANDY, MARK AND I TOOK A DRIVE TO TURVEREN JUST EAST OF BRUSSELS.   THERE WAS A VERY PRETTY PARK WITH WALKING PATHS, BIKE PATHS AND PONDS.   IT IS LOCATED RIGHT NEAR THE AFRICAN MUSEUM AND THE TOWN OF TURVEREN WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY A CUP OF COFFEE AT AN OUTSIDE CAFE.  A GREAT PLACE TO SPEND A NICE AFTERNOON OUTSIDE.  ENJOY THE SPRING PICTURES.

THE LEUVEN GATE.   ONE OF MANY GATES FROM THE ORIGINAL PARK AND THE ONLY ONE PRESERVED IN IT'S ORIGINAL FORM.   THE PARK WAS COMPLETELY WALLED IN BETWEEN 1625 - 1632.

THE AFRICAN MUSEUM.   IN 1908 THE BELGIAN CONGO BECAME A COLONY OF THE BELGIAN GOVERNMENT AFTER OUTCRY OF THE TREATMENT OF THE CONGOLESE WHEN THEY WERE ESSENTIALLY OWNED BY KING LEOPOLD II.   THEY REMAINED A COLONY UNTIL THE EARLY 1960s.  THIS MUSEUM IS SUPPOSED TO BE EXCELLENT AND I NEED TO GET THERE QUICKLY TO SEE IT BECAUSE IT WILL BE CLOSING FOR SEVERAL YEARS FOR MAJOR RENOVATIONS.
